A Curve in the Road

Disability comes in many forms. There's physical limits and there are mental and emotional limits. I believe challenges can force us to push ourselves to be more creative, more sensitive to inspiration Where do you go to be inspired?

Zentangles are in many shapes, and none are ever mistakes. No erasers needed, they are what they are, a work of art.

SELF REALIZATION

My time of self realization is a collage I made. The words say there is a little girl hidden inside me somewhere. I think each decade of my life I've made new discoveries about who I am for real inside. Some things are good, and some need work on. Who are you really?

CREATING RE-PURPOSED BOOKS

Re purposed or altered books are only limited to the artist's imagination. See Pompeii Redone post below, under "older posts", for example.

Take a book, any book and recreate the pages to suit your story whether it is like a scrap book with memories, or a statement about ecology, or an expression of love for someone or something.

Pull them out, glue them in, add collage or paint over some words and leave others. Use the original book's story like wild animals and include "wild animals." And, so on. Paste in pictures, draw new ones, paint, tear, or bookmark them. Write in poetry, express yourself.....that's what it's all about.

SIGH BY THE SEA

Waters edge, laps up the sand,

Spits out the toxic junk

That undersea oil wells land.

Cry seaweed, sob turtles,

Weep sea urchins and mermaids,

That sea waters are curdeled.

Here a foul odor of oil,

There a red, black sheen

Appearing on the wetted soil.

Beneath, at bottom's plume,

The pipe spews out,

Unending, destructive gloom.

The fish are all dying,

The the birds wearing suits

Of gooey oil, are crying.

Named an act of error,

This underwater event,

Seems more like an act of terror.

Destroying our seas, and shores,

For years to come it's said,

And, livelihoods for sure.

Scream people, plants and fowl

Beat your chests, raise our flags,

Defend our nation, one and all.

RESURRECTION DAY IN FLORIDA

In Florida, our eyes saw
The dark days of storms,

Seeming to last too long;

We had nightmares,

Haunting our thoughts.

In Florida, we were there,

While angry crowds swarmed,

And shouted untrue accusations;

Jesus was wearing a crown of thorns

Which pierced his dirty skin deeply.

In Florida, we decided here

Was Christ's final place of rest,

Within our spirit, our hearts;

So we came to Jesus;

And saw him holding open the door.

In Florida, we found Jesus,

As Messiah, he isn't dead,

He is alive here and now,

And just as he promised,

He forgives us and saves us all.

SUMMER'S BEACH

Summer's beach is a respite

From the year's worries.

I take myself to that place

Lay upon it, and feel it.

I close my eyes, and shut my ears

To all but the wave sounds

As summer's winds blow out

All the negativity and blackness.

My body rests, my spirit lightens

As God's healing Summer energies

Flow with my heartbeat,

Washing smog and storms away.

O Summer, your beach is marvelous

Your soft, white sand tremendous,

And, the freedom comes willingly

To once again make me whole.

That Day by calicocarolj 9/2011

Nine-eleven, twenty-o-one.

I've shut out the pain, maybe.

Don't remember where I first

Heard about it. Someone called

Me at work?

What do you mean a plane flew

Into the side of the World Trade Center?

How could that happen? Couldn't they see

This tall building?

Snap! The t.v. is on in the break room.

Cries from co workers seeing the plane hit.

My patients are upset, fearing for others,

Their personal pain is set aside now.

More terrorists' fly planes into the other tower,

And, into the Pentagon. In Pennsylvania, another crash.

The towers collapse, and life, as we know it,

Has stopped for us all and many are dead.

Fear strikes at my heart and head.

I'm watching the skies and wondering who.

Who really is my neighbor, my friend?

In grief, there is anger, we're defensive and non trusting.

Since 9/11/2001 we've launched military attacks,

Said good bye to ones we loved; and realized,

We, Americans are vulnerable in our patriotism.

'We' is a good word, helping unite us and share our fates.

Beyond that day, we realize we are to live conscious

Of the threats or actions of other nations,

To have faith in God, Love one another, and,

Live like today may be our last.
